Pre-Existing Health Conditions
In some cases, patients may not be candidates for breast augmentation or other breast surgery procedures because of pre-existing health conditions. This is highly dependent on each patient’s unique medical history and body makeup. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani, our board-certified plastic surgeon, will meet with you for an initial consultation and explain all aspects of the procedure. He will also evaluate your medical history to determine if you have a pre-existing medical condition which may preclude you from certain types of breast surgery.
Poland’s Syndrome is a congenital condition that can affect many areas in the upper body, and ultimately cause the breasts to develop into a very small, misshapen appearance. In some rare cases, the breasts do not develop at all. These symptoms of Poland’s Syndrome can often be improved with breast reconstruction.
Autoimmune disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and other conditions which weaken healthy body tissue may preclude patients from having breast surgery procedures.
Fibromyalgia is a syndrome which causes pain and discomfort in the muscles, joints, and other soft tissues of the body. This condition may also preclude a patients’ candidacy for breast surgery.
Dr. Jon will be happy to speak with you about breast surgery procedures and recommend alternatives if you may have a pre-existing health condition. Please contact The Aesthetic Surgery Centre for more information, or to schedule a consultation.
