Breast Augmentation Revision
Regardless of the breast implants placed, it’s possible that additional surgery may be necessary in the future to revise the breasts at some point. Although breast implants have increased in durability and functionality, they do not last forever. Just like any other synthetic implantable medical device, such as heart valves and artificial joints, some patients will require a revisionary breast implant procedure. Whether you were left with an unfavorable result from another plastic surgeon, or you notice adverse changes in the appearance or feel of your implants, these concerns may be treated through breast revision surgery.

What is Breast Revision?
Our team at The Aesthetic Surgery Centre knows breast implants can deteriorate and diminish in quality over time — even when placed by the most experienced breast surgeon. Your body, cosmetic desires, and the advancement of aesthetic technology can evolve with the passing years. Similarly, the resiliency of your breast implants may also change. If your implants have ruptured, lost their shape, changed placement, or feel less natural than preferred, our Orlando plastic surgeon offers breast revision surgery to correct these issues. This procedure can revitalize the appearance of your breasts, address a complication, or improve the outcome of a prior breast surgery. If simply changing the size of your implants is the desired result, breast revision can also help you attain a smaller or larger bust size. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani is happy to bring his expertise in breast augmentation revision to patients in the Orlando and Maitland areas.
Reasons for Breast Revision
Breast revision may be necessary in the event that a complication has arisen with your implants, or if you simply want to exchange your implants for a different shape, type, or size. Some patients also decide they no longer have use for their implants and want to remove them altogether. In general, the three most common reasons for breast implant revision include:
- A patient wishes to change her current implant size.
- A patient wants to improve the natural feel and appearance of her breasts.
- The implants have deteriorated in some way and are in need of replacement.
The issue(s) that need to be addressed can be minor or major. If you suspect your implants have ruptured or deflated, it’s important to contact our office as soon as possible to schedule a consultation to replace them. It has been found that revision rates are typically more frequent in breast reconstruction cases due to the dramatic changes that occur in the soft-tissue envelope and anatomical breast borders after mastectomy.
How is the Breast Revision Procedure Performed?
Similar to breast augmentation, the breast revision procedure starts with a consultation, where you and Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani will go over your concerns and identify the goals of surgery. Once your treatment plan has been created, breast revision is typically an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. In some cases, the incisions placed during your original surgery can be re-used to remove/replace your breast implants. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani will explain every aspect of your procedure in person so you know what to expect at the time of surgery. He will make the necessary corrections, and meticulously close your incisions. In some cases of breast implant removal, he may suggest a breast lift or another procedure to address stretched skin and help restore your natural breast shape.
What is Recovery From Breast Revision Like?
Many patients report that recovery after breast revision is similar to the healing period following their initial breast augmentation. Bruising, swelling, tenderness, and general discomfort can be expected for a few days after surgery, which medications can help manage until these reactions resolve on their own. After four to seven days, patients are typically able to perform light household chores and return to non-strenuous work settings. It can take weeks or months for all signs of swelling to fully subside. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani will advise you to avoid exercise, heavy lifting, and aerobic activity for at least four weeks after breast revision. He will also monitor the progress of your recovery in follow-up appointments, where he will also remove any sutures or bandages if necessary.
How Much Does Breast Revision Cost?
Every patient’s breast revision procedure will be unique, so the cost of surgery will also be personalized according to your individual needs and goals. In addition to the standard expenses included in every procedure — such as fees for the surgeon, anesthesia, and operating facility — many factors can influence the price of breast revision, including:
- The cost of your new implants if they’re being exchanged or replaced
- The extent of surgical work necessary to achieve your goals
- The complexity of the procedure
- The surgical techniques utilized
For any out-of-pocket costs, Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani accepts third-party financing options from CareCredit® — a highly reputable healthcare financing company that offers low- to no-interest payment plans for qualified patients. If you would like to pay for your breast revision in a series of more manageable installments rather than a whole sum, CareCredit® can be an ideal payment option to make your procedure more affordable.
